Black & Decker BD552 Electric Drill: One Helluva Old Faithful Tool

I have owned numerous power tools during my life. Of these, several power tools ranging from screw drivers, cordless drills and various sanders all the way up to electric drills, have been in my possession for twenty years or more.

But out of them all my favorite is a Black and Decker BD552 electric drill, which I purchased in 1980 from my mother's home shopping catalog, and has been a faithful DIY tool ever since.

It has just notched up it's thirtieth birthday. It does not matter what task you throw at it, it is the way it just performs perfectly every time. I have used my Black and Decker to put up shelves in to brick walls, concrete walls, it has been used to drill through timber of all thickness.

The Black and Decker BD552 comes with a variable speed gear system, which allows you to drill through various thickness of whatever material you are using with confidence. It is also equipped with automatic hammer drill capabilities ensuring easy progress through even the toughest of brick or concrete.

The main reason I love my Black and Decker most of all though is because I purchased it when I was sixteen and it was the very first power tool I bought using my own money, which I had earned by doing part time work.

It has certainly been worth every penny and it has definitely earned its keep over the last thirty years. I often think I should buy a more up to date model, but would it match up to the Black and Decker? And, anyway, I would hate to part with my old faithful 'friend'.

I have got a sixteen year old son and am teaching him to use it too. So if you want a loyal and faithful tool I recommend you buy a thirty year old Black and Decker.
